Summary
I am a Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences at the KU Leuven and an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience at Maastricht University. My work concerns psychological mechanisms in the transition from acute to chronic pain. My research in the recent years focused on learning processes in pain-related fear and more recently in avoidance.
After obtaining my PhD in 2008 at the KU Leuven Center for the Psychology of Learning and Experimental Psychopathology, I teamed up with Johan Vlaeyen and started working on the "Psychology of Pain and Disability (Odysseus) Research Program" as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, translating my fear conditioning expertise to the field of pain. I have been a FWO Postdoctoral Research Fellow at KU Leuven (since 2013), a visiting research fellow at the University of South Australia (2012-2013, collaborating with Lorimer Moseley), and since 2017 I am appointed as a faculty member at Maastricht University.
