Blanca B. Landa

Population biology and biogeography of soilborne pathogens and biocontrol angents in the rhizosphere. Integrated control of plant pathogens; Rhizosphere microbial ecology; Biocontrol; Molecular diagnosis; Metagenomic analysis of microbial populations.

Gabriele Casazza

My current research interests focus on the study of biogeography and conservation of endemic plants. Research topics include the effects of past and future climate change, the reproductive biology, the phylogeography and the taxonomy.

Tsung-Min Hung

Tsung-Min Hung (Ernest) currently works as a research chair professor at the Department of Physical Education , National Taiwan Normal University. He was inducted as a fellow for the National Academy of Kinesiology (US) and the International Society of Sport Psychology in 2018. His research mainly focuses on two areas. The first area is about enhancing sport performance through cortical intervention. Specifically, EEG signature of superior sport performance, precision sports such as golf, shooting, archery, and service in racket sports in particular, as well as neurofeedback are his current endeavor. The second area of research focus on neurocognitive effect of physical activity. Children with ADHD, the elderly participants, and young children are his current targeting population.

Sharif S Aly

As a veterinary epidemiologist I specialize in dairy cattle infectious diseases and welfare. I received my veterinary medicine degree from Cairo University (1998), practiced for two years before completing the Food Animal Production Medicine Internship at the Caine Veterinary Teaching Center at the U of Idaho, followed by the Food Animal Reproduction and Herd Health Residency at U of California, Davis. I completed my masters and doctoral degrees at UC Davis in Preventive Veterinary Medicine and Epidemiology, respectively.

Dany Garant

Professor of Ecology in the Department of Biology at Université de Sherbrooke.

Research in my lab aims to understand the processes that generate and maintain biodiversity, mainly through the establishment of evolutionary related parameters in their ecological context. Current research projects in our laboratory involve molecular ecology, quantitative genetics and population dynamics to study wild animal populations.

Sonia MR Oliveira

Doctor Sonia Oliveira holds a Licenciatura in Biology (pre-Bologna) and a Master in Cellular and Molecular Biology from the University of Aveiro, where she also specialized in medicinal plants, toxicology, murine models, and spermatogenesis. In 2011 she moved to Australia to work in Reproductive Biological Sciences. She later explored the nerve-cancer connection in Cancer, namely in female cancers, and completed her Ph.D. in Human Physiology ( with a significant component in Medical Biochemistry and Neurophysiology) from the University of Newcastle (Australia) in 2018. She then worked with biomimetic systems and nanotechnology in diabetes and stem cells. She explored multiple methods for primary and secondary cell culture, always with a keen interest in histopathology, cell biology, and rare disorders. Participated in >40 event(s). (Co-)Supervised MSc dissertation(s) and final projects for course completion of LSc/BSc. And works mostly in the area(s) of Natural sciences with emphasis on Molecular and Cellular Biology, and Medical and Health Sciences with emphasis on Neurosciences, Cancer, Reproduction, Toxicology, Biotechnology, and Stem cells. Also has collaborations in Microbiology, Biomaterials, and Communication and Information technologies.

Stephen L Macknik

Stephen L. Macknik trained as a postdoc with Zachary Mainen at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, and David Hubel at Harvard Medical School. He has a BA in Psychobiology, Biology and Psychology from the Univ of California, Santa Cruz, and a PhD in Neurobiology from Harvard Univ, with Margaret Livingstone. His research seeks to understand the neural underpinnings of visual awareness and attention, and the neural consequences of cerebral blood flow in the healthy brain and in neurological disorders.

Elliot J Lefkowitz

Professor of Microbiology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB); Director of Informatics for the UAB Center for Clinical and Translational Science; Data Secretary of the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV) and Editor-In-Chief of the ICTV Online (10th) Report on Virus Taxonomy. My research focuses on contributing to the understanding of microbial (especially viral) genomics and evolution by developing and utilizing computational tools and bioinformatics techniques to mine sequence and other data for significant patterns characteristic of function and/or evolution.

Nigel R Andrew

My current research interests focus on the impacts of a rapidly changing climate and environment on insect behaviour, ecology and physiology; insect community structure along environmental gradients; and insect-plant interactions.
I am currently Editor-in-Chief of Austral Ecology. a Fulbright Senior Scholar (2020) and an Australian Research Council College of Experts panel member.

Mathew J Wedel

I am a vertebrate paleontologist, and my main areas of interest are sauropod dinosaurs and the evolution of pneumatic (air-filled) bones in dinosaurs and birds. I'm also interested in the evolution of heads and necks in vertebrates, and in the nervous systems of very large animals. I've been fortunate to coauthor three papers naming new dinosaurs: the sauropods Sauroposeidon (2000) and Brontomerus (2011), and the early horned dinosaur Aquilops (2014). I am currently an Associate Professor at Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, California, where I teach gross anatomy. In 2016 my book "The Sauropod Dinosaurs: Life in the Age of Giants", with artist and lead author Mark Hallett, was published by Johns Hopkins University Press.

In my spare time I enjoy stargazing, and I write the monthly Binocular Highlights column and the occasional feature article for Sky & Telescope magazine.
